Time for more A.D. The Bible Continues.
Saul is back in Jerusalem, beating
and capturing more followers of Jesus' disciples.
Peter and the others are
eating bread and drinking wine in honor of their Savior, while hiding under the
floor of a house.
Later that night, Saul shames the
people that has captured.
Mary Magdelene goes to the
disciples' hideout to show them a couple of kids whose parents got taken away.
One of the followers fixes to leave to Samaria to find Samaritans that would
listen to the Word.
The next day, the emperor arrives
in Jerusalem to evaluate Pilate and Caiaphas. This is urgent for Pilate,
because if the emperor finds any fault in either his or Caiaphas' positions,
then they would be stripped of their positions.
Pilate: "We stand or fall
together on this."
Now, Pilate calls for funding for
the emperor's stay-which means using money from the temple. Caiaphas can't
agree to use funds from the temple, but he CAN tame down the violence caused by
Saul's arrestings.
Leah isn't happy that her husband
is still kissing Rome's feet.
Leah: "How far will we keep
Rome happy?"
Now remember the disciple that went
to Samaria to spread the word of Christ? Well, big shock: he gets attacked by
Samaritans and rob him of his shoes and stuff.
Meanwhile, Caiaphas invites Leah's
father back to handle their money issue. The father-in-law questions Caiaphas'
relationship with Rome, but Caiaphas tries to justify it.
Caiaphas: "Happiness comes
with a price..."
While the disciples are still in
hiding, the wounded disciple Philip meets a man that helps him up and gives him
drink. Then the man invites Philip into the city of Samaria to see a spectacle,
which no more than a magician named Simon the Sorcerer...
-Aww... they couldn't get Cris
Angel to perform? Then again, you all know where this is going. Philip halts
the presentation and tells everyone who the real Savior is, and people freak
out and attack him... OR...
We immediately cut to another scene
where Saul is torturing and questioning a prisoner to make them tell where
Simon Peter and the others are hiding. Saul then receives a petition from
Pilate and Caiaphas, saying that the arrests need to be halted, because of the
emperor's stay at Jerusalem.
Later, Mary Magdelene is applying
for a job. She gets assisted to work in the Governor's household, seeing that
she is to work where she's told.
-So much for a job market.
Back in Samaria, Philip is called
up by Simon the Sorcerer to help in a magic act. As he makes his way to the
stage, you can hear people ridicule him, all because they were told that he's
from Jerusalem.
-Talk about public shaming...
Simon does this magic trick where
he returns Philip's stolen pendant. However, Philip criticizes him for being
cheap and not truly holy, because of the trickery. With that being said, Philip
is led off the stage and shunned by the crowd.
-So... I was partially right.
Philip doesn't talk about Jesus here, and doesn't get attacked by the people...
but people there still hate him.
We then cut to Galilee, where Saul
confronts Peter's daughter Maya. Saul tells her that he knows her father, and
that he's looking for her father.
Now, the emperor Tiberius finally
arrives inside the city of Jerusalem. The Pilate family come out to greet their
emperor, as well as the emperor's nephew, who can definitely tell whether or
not Pilate is using flattery.
-Hey. Whatever puts Pilate in his
place, because Pilate has done so many horrendous stuff already- the
executions, the crazy laws... yeah.
We cut to Maya going to her father
Peter, and telling of Saul's visit.
As we move on, we see that the
emperor is dead serious on getting down to business.
-The emperor is basically saying,
"Cut the crap. Quit the bullshit flattery. Let's put everything down on
the table."
We then cut back to Samaria, where
Philip witnesses Simon the sorcerer...
-I'm sorry. That guy's occupation
is silly. I mean, when I think of sorcerers, I think of some of the guys in
Harry Potter... Anyway...
Simon is trying to heal a woman
from demonic possession, but comes up short.
Philip steps in to try healing
her, and it works. After witnessing that miracle, the people rejoice, and
Philip is greeted with praise.
Mary Magdelene is now working in
the Governor's house, and the emperor's nephew is already going horny on her.
Anyway, Pilate exchanges words with Tiberius the emperor. The centurion seems
to recognize Mary.
Later, we see Philip baptizing
people, when Simon the sorcerer shows up to be baptized as well.
As the emperor is being put to bed
by Claudia, Saul is cornered by Peter and the disciples in the streets. Saul
eventually walks away, while Peter's friends criticize him for not doing
something to Saul. Peter doesn't want violence.
Later, we see Simon the sorcerer
test out his "magic" by cutting his accomplice's hand and trying to
heal it, only to learn that his "powers" were taken from him when he
was baptized...
-...or was he a fake all this time?
I don't know.
Meanwhile, the Pilate family, the
Herod family, the emperor and nephew meet up in Pilate's chambers for the big
discussion. While that's going on, the centurion confronts Mary Magdelene, and
accuses her of taking the job to fund the other disciples, but she insists that
she's on her own now. Mary doesn't show any fear, but the centurion warns her
to never see the Governor again.
We cut back to Pilate's chambers,
where Pilate is defending his authority to Tiberius. Pilate calls Caiaphas to
the defense. Oh, and by the way, we see the emperor's nephew be told by his
uncle to keep his funny retorts to himself.
-Yeah, since the minute we've first
seen the nephew, I thought he was a complete jerk-off.
So Pilate and his party are
dismissed by Tiberius.
Anyway, while the arrests and
search for Peter resumes, Leah criticizes Caiaphas for standing in front of
Tiberius to plead Pilate's cause. To make matters worse, Caiaphas learns that
Saul is back arresting people.
Out in the streets, the emperor's
bratty nephew gets involved with the arrests.
-It's like he said: "What's
going on?" They tell him, and he's automatically on board. Okay.
Nonchalant.
But when one prisoner gets physical
with him, the nephew fights back and demonstrates his Roman power to everyone
watching.
Now, while the emperor is being put
to bed again, Peter and the other disciples are back in hiding. Peter doesn't
want to leave the hideout yet, because he doesn't want Saul to discover them.
The disciples split up to take Maya away.
Later that night, Pilate is anxious
on what the emperor will do to him. Claudia gives him some advice, and... they
hold hands.
-(pause) I guess Pilate won't be as
domestically abusive this time, and say that she can't tell him what to do, and
all that...
Meanwhile, Saul hears a prisoner
confess to where Peter is hiding... but it turns out that the prisoner is being
paid to tell Saul what he needed to hear, and Caiaphas sees that his plan to
lead Saul astray worked.
-Okay. I get it. So that the
emperor won't see any violence in this town, Saul had to be driven away from
the scene with an allusion for a while. Fair enough.
