Today I wanted to share with you my Top 10 facts about the Fib from LarryBoy and the Fib from Outer Space.
I figured since I haven't seen the movie in months that I go ahead and do a Top 10 list for the movie's villain. So let's jump right in.
10. There's only one way to defeat him.
I listed this fact pretty low, because the answer is straightforward. Just ask yourself: What's the opposite of a lie? The truth.
I mean, the movie may have mentioned weapons and stressed out the importance of defeating this monster, but the real answer was to simply tell the truth.
-There's your example of "the power of words," kids.
9. He has a red counterpart.
It's at the end of the movie where we get to see another Fib fall from the sky, only this one is red, and it goes another direction, instead of to Junior's house.
-What was the purpose of showing a different Fib alien... and NOT taking advantage of that? I mean, there could've been sequels! Then again, the Rumor Weed episode that came after was enough to impress LarryBoy fans... in the 90s. After the 90s, the Fib seemed to be a lost cause.
8. He was voiced by Tim Gregory. (Who's Tim Gregory?)
You'll find this fact in the end credits. However, the strangest thing about this is that we have no clue who his voice-actor, or what he has been doing since LarryBoy and the Fib from Outer Space. I mean, if you trying doing a Google search of Tim Gregory (as well as adding "voice actor" to the search inquiry), you'll find that this was his only voice-acting role.
-Um... one-time casting calls, anyone?
7. Pop cultural references
Although, there seems to be some fan art on this villain, there's still no denying that you can make a pop cultural reference on him. For example...
-Godzilla
-King Kong
6. He has growing abilities.
This fact is also obvious, because we see him grow no matter what scene he's in before transforming to his biggest (even though the transformations take place off-screen).
Now here's I propose on seeing the size length of him from his tiniest to his biggest.
-First scene: either the size of a golf ball or a tennis ball
-After that first lie: the size of a basketball
-After the second lie: maybe the size of the average adult
-After the third lie... This leads me to...
5. There were inconsistencies on him.
The Fib's size as a giant was heavily debated, because some people said this, and others said another thing.
But if you were to read the description on the back of the VHS cover, it says: "30-foot-tall monster threatening to devour all of Bumblyburg." However, when it came to the DVD covers, the part of his size was omitted from the description on the back cover. In fact, the movie actual itself doesn't explain how tall he is when he reaches his biggest.
4. He himself tells lies.
That would make sense, because he calls himself "Fib."
-There had to be a reason for that name, folks!
And we know this, because there are two scenes where he himself is lying to Junior about his change in sizes:
-after the first lie:
Fib: "...I've always been this size..."
-after the second lie:
Fib: "Well, maybe I put on a few pounds..."
-Then again, he can't make himself grow, because he's telling lies himself.
3. We have no idea of this villain's origin.
We're only given bits and pieces of info...
-He came from outer space.
-He's a space alien.
That's it? What galaxy did he come from? How did he come into being? What kind of alien species is he? Explain, movie!
2. He's capable of being violent.
As far as we know, he had already made an attempt on two lives: Junior Asparagus and LarryBoy.
He has threatened Junior with the intention of eating him; he nearly succeeding in eating LarryBoy...
-Only sucking on him like a lollipop and then spitting him back out as Junior tells the truth.
Plus, before all that, the Fib is out there, stepping on cars, destroying buildings...
-There was smoke coming out of one of the buildings in one scene.
That was pretty bad-ass. Now I want to see Big Idea bring this guy back for a sequel! Big Idea, make it happen! But I don't that's going to be the case, which leads me to...
1. His one and only appearance
Yes, of all the Veggietales episodes to date, this was the Fib's only appearance. Although he has been featured on a small poster in the back of a classroom in LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed,
and on a poster fighting Goliath the giant pickle in Madame Blueberry, this was still pretty much it for this villain.
This ties in with Facts #3, 8, and 9, because I feel that this villain's story isn't over, or at least, is missing something in his story. I mean, don't you all want to get a back story from the Fib? Or at least why he has these lying abilities to begin with? I know I do!
