Hi, I'm the Whatsoever Critic. I review just about anything.
Well, last night (8/3/14) was Week 7 of Rising Star, in which 13 singers perform, and 7 move onto the "Quarter Finals," plus 1 singer that gets saved by West Coast. And since eliminations took place on the show last night, I felt that it's a civic duty for me to honor those that were eliminated- whether I was for it or against it.
But before I do that, I'd like to give a shout-out to Dana Williams. I was nervous for her, because I felt that she gave us a good performance. I mean, a 60% from the East Coast? Seriously? I felt like she did way better than that. Anyway, the West Coast eventually saved her from elimination, which was a good thing. Good job, Dana!
Now, here are my Top 5 Rising Star Performers that were eliminated on Week 7, but deserve mentioning!
5. Alice J. Lee
Like I said before, I felt that Alice tried too hard in her performances. Not that she's a bad singer- she has talent. It's just that in most of her performances, I don't always feel it- I don't feel what anyone else is feeling. It doesn't matter if it's the song choice or if there were just minimal mistakes- I just didn't feel anything, compared to the other performers. In fact, I think that's what worked against Alice, because people know that she's got it in her to give us a good performance, but the delivery was either forced or she didn't really give it her all...
-In other words, people may have been split down the middle when giving a consensus for this performance.
Either way, Alice will keep trying to fulfill her dreams of becoming a singer. So, there's a possibility that she'll make a comeback.
4. Megan Tibbits
I was like "No, no, no, no, no!" when Megan gave us her performance. The reason why I was like that was because in her first two performances, she gave us powerful performances. Here, this was another version of the William-Roth-Wrecking-Ball bombshell. I mean, think about it: a singer, who wowed us with great renditions, all of a sudden makes a wrong song choice and suffers the consequences (elimination on the spot).
I was shocked by all this. I mean, it was a gutsy move, but too risky. Although it was risky, I still honor Megan for her bravery.
3. Sonnet Simmons
Sonnet was one of my favorite voices to listen to. It was a shame that she was eliminated last night. I mean, what was wrong with everyone? A 30%? Really? Was that any way to end the night? I'm not even kidding- Sonnet was the last performer to sing in last night's episode, and the majority of voters had the audacity to vote "No"?
I'm sorry. I felt that that was unfair to Sonnet. She was awesome.
2. Lisa Punch
The show called her a "powerhouse" singer at the beginning of the series. And now she was brought down low by elimination? That was unexpected.
Lisa had people behind her, even getting all three experts to vote "Yes" on her performance. However, a 59% wasn't enough to save her from elimination. She was so close to making the next round!
Anyway, Lisa would be missed. However, I have a feeling that she may come back into the music world. Who knows?
1. Macy Kate
You may remember Macy as the girl that was picked out of the audience on opening night to sing in front of everyone- the Instagram winner that was chosen off of social media to perform for us. In the beginning, she wowed us by her renditions. However, her rendition of a song from P!nk may have been her downfall. In fact, she was in the show's Hot Seat for a long time with her 60% score, until Audrey Kate Geiger swooped past her with a 65%, knocking her out of the competition.
I was hoping that the West Coast would save her, but to no avail. Either way, I know this isn't over for Macy Kate. I know that she can pick herself back up, dust herself off, and keeping pursuing her dreams. We sure hope for the best.
And that was Top 5 list! I hope you enjoyed it; and I'll be sure to keep you posted on both Rising Star and The Quest from ABC.

Editorial: ABC's "The Quest"- Was It Worth Watching?
Hi, I'm the Whatsoever Critic. I review just about anything.
First of all, it was advertised in almost every commercial break on ABC, which made the show hard to forget about when trying to find something good to watch. Second of all, the ads made the show seem theatrical and amazing.
-The show should know, because they have executive producers from Lord of the Rings and The Amazing Race... just as advertised.
Now, for the show itself... I had mixed views on it.
It's not bad. I mean, I love the premise. I love the fact that the 12 contestants are dream-seekers, dreamers, and adventurers at heart, and wanted to live in a fantasy world.
But with that said, I think there was a little too much subtlty in the competition, as if the show wanted to play it safe, rather than be ballsy like in Whodunnit.
-Then again, it's the pilot episode. So, there's still some time to improve.
As far as the elimination process went (I won't say who got eliminated), it was too subtle. In fact, they don't even show you what happens to the eliminated person, or at least where they go for "banishment"...
-...unless the show is saving that bit of info for later on in the first season. (I don't know!) But again, there's still room for improvement.
Overall, this show was okay. In fact, I can't wait until it comes back on next week.

Thanking the Nostalgia Critic
Hi, I'm the Whatsoever Critic. I review just about anything.
I just finished see the Nostalgia Critic's review on The Purge.
And you won't believe the stuff that was going through my head before, during, and after seeing the review!
Before the viewing:
I was looking through the League of Super Critic's Youtube channel and saw that the Nostalgia Critic had a new review for this week. I see the title of the video starting with The Purge; and I was shocked by that.
Why? I heard that The Purge was a horror movie that many people saw, and that sparked so much controversy. And here, Nostalgia Critic had the guts to review such a movie; I was shocked by that. I was even scared by that, because normally the Nostalgia Critic would review stuff from the 90s, as well as what sparked so much popular and/or controversy. To me, that had to be ballsy.
During the viewing:
Some of the review was hilarious. Well, for one, Malcolm and Tamara had on those silly mouse ears the entire review; two, they got Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche to do the voices of Pinky and the Brain; and three, Nostalgia Critic made fun of the movie's antagonist.
As far as consensus goes, I had to agree with the Nostalgia Critic. The ideas in that movie were stupid and pretentious. The movie was diabolical (even though I only saw the trailer for it, and not the actual movie). In fact, I was hesitant in seeing the movie myself, because I didn't like the premise or the ideas in that movie. But thank God Nostalgia Critic showed that the movie was too stupid and cheesy.
-Here's my suggestion for the Nostalgia Critic: since he's looking more into horror movies nowadays, I was wondering if he would look into The Possession (2012 film)-
I saw that movie and thought it was cheesy; I mean, it received a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I don't know; just a thought.
After the viewing:
Even after the review was over, I was still shocked that the Nostalgia Critic reviewed The Purge. Even though I was shocked, I was also amazing, because he was brave enough to review such a movie. Well, this wouldn't be the first time that I felt that he was brave at reviewing certain movies. I felt the same way when he reviewed The Pebble and the Penguin and Swan Princess.
-You know, I was tempted to review Swan Princess for it trying to be like Disney; but Nostalgia Critic basically read my mind and delivered.
-As for The Pebble and the Penguin, both Nostalgia Critic and I gave our own consensuses on the film; however, I went further in depth on a certain seen from that movie. (Read my review for this movie (should be in April 2014 archive) to see what I mean.)
Anyway, I just want to thank Nostalgia Critic for reviewing The Purge. Reviewing the movie was brave; it was straightforward; and it was... I don't know, totally unexpected!

Getting Ready For "The Quest"
Hi, I'm the Whatsoever Critic. I review just about anything.
This week, I'm getting ready. Well, I'm getting ready for so many things.
1. School
2. Next week of Rising Star
3. Figuring out what to review next
4. The premiere of ABC's The Quest
What? By the title of this blog post, did you think I was gonna go on a quest of... doing whatever? Well, not exactly.
Ever since ABC announced over and over on its channel that The Quest was going to premiere this Thursday (7/31/14), I found myself being curious about it. I mean, it was cleverly advertised, promising reality meeting medieval fantasy, all the medieval fantasy cliches, and a race to become the hero of the medieval premise. And seeing that I'm a sucker for fantasy in books and film, this has to be the show for me.
However, I found myself also wondering: will this show be the next Whodunnit of ABC? I mean, Whodunnit, in my opinion, was something that I followed, because of the premise- especially the premise, because there was this urgency to find the killer, to move the plot device, to get to a resolution- and it worked (at the season finale). However, I'm hoping that The Quest doesn't fall into the same category as Whodunnit, because here's a question: When was the last time the show Whodunnit was ever mentioned by word of mouth or by social media? It's like a show that just comes and goes, a show that fades, it may seem to be. I heard that there was supposed to be another season for this show, but that fact wasn't official, because of production issues.
Now, what I'm hoping for on The Quest, is that the urgency to complete a goal is there; the plot device is worthwhile (at least); and that the medieval action and visuals are fantastic enough to keep audiences begging for more. And seeing that the premiere is this week, I will be sure to keep a look-out for it and to keep you posted on what I thought of the show.
